KCRG reports that signatories of the 2026 Iowa Climate Statement are urging more wind, solar and energy storage as data-center growth increases electricity demand. The researchers frame upcoming generation choices around costs, public health and emissions. Alliant Energy responded that it is pursuing a balanced energy portfolio.
The signatories’ position
The statement favors expanding renewable generation and storage, including solar on brownfields and other suitable sites. It presents the signatories’ recommendations, rather than an Iowa Utilities Commission ruling, an official state forecast or an approved utility resource plan.
Alliant Energy’s response
In its response to KCRG, Alliant said it is balancing reliability, sustainability and customer costs while pursuing its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The company’s Energy Blueprint describes a generation mix that includes wind, solar, hydropower, natural gas, coal and storage, alongside grid modernization.
The Blueprint is Alliant’s planning approach. Neither the statement nor the company response establishes a specific change to an Iowa customer’s bill.
